Book Meningitis B vaccination

Meningococcal group B is a serious bacterial infection that can lead to meningitis and septicaemia. It can develop rapidly and become life-threatening within hours, and vaccination is the most effective way to reduce the risk. Emmer Green Pharmacy gives the MenB vaccine on the NHS to young people who are eligible, and privately to anyone else who would like protection.

On the NHS

Until 31 March 2027 the NHS is offering the MenB vaccine free to:

  • Young people born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
  • Anyone born on or after 21 July 2001 who is starting university, or an eligible further education college, as a residential student for the first time in autumn 2026

It is a two-dose course, at least four weeks apart. First doses are available until 31 December 2026 and second doses until 31 March 2027, so do not leave it late. If you have already completed a MenB course in the last five years you do not need it again. The MenACWY vaccine given at school does not protect against MenB, so you still need this one.

Babies have the MenB vaccine as part of their routine childhood vaccinations at the GP surgery, not at the pharmacy.

Privately

If you are outside the NHS offer and would like protection, we can give the MenB vaccine privately after a short assessment. It is a two-dose course, with the second dose four weeks after the first. Ask us for the price.

What happens at your appointment

We start with a short, private chat about your health, any medicines you take and any allergies, so we can check the service is right for you.

The vaccine is given in the upper arm. We will book your second dose before you leave, so you are never left working out the timing yourself.
